I just read that the sense of touch is the first one developed by the baby in the womb. Makes sense to me. The need for touch is basic to every human. Just a hand on the shoulder or pat on the back can be encouraging to us. Those of us who have lost a spouse are so hungry for touch. When my son was here this weekend, the feeling of connection and affection transmitted through a warm hug was so deeply felt. I knew he loves and cares for me. Just the hugs confirmed that. I am so glad that I go to a hugging church. We are encouraged each service to greet, shake a hand, and give a hug to one another. For those of us living alone that is such a blessing. The need for touch expressing love and concern is universal. There is love transmitted through such hugs–love of friends, love of family, love for others we might not know well, but can share the love of Christ with and encourage through hugs. I know His love has been shared through others to me. Hugs remind me I am not alone in this walk. Not only Jesus is with me, but so are His other children. So special.
