I was told recently that “You have surrounded myself with good people. You are good people.” Wow! It was not the time to enter a debate about worthiness, so for the moment I let it slide. I know that I will reopen this conversation again because the Scripture says that there is none good. No not one. All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Psalm 14; Romans 3:23) just to cite two verses. I know that I am NOT GOOD people. In fact, I am a wretched sinner whose only claim to goodness is that which has been imparted to me by the Lord Jesus Christ. Left to my own devices, I would be an arrogant, selfish, and bitter woman. I am so grateful that God sent His son to take the penalty of my sin for me so that I could know His love and live with Him forever. His grace has set me free from the law of sin and death. He brings life and love into my heart daily.
I am also extremely grateful for His placing me in a family of faith. People who are remade from their own selfish persons into the image of His loving and compassionate son, Jesus. God in his grace has surrounded me with good people who are godly because they know the God of the universe through His Son, Jesus Christ, and have willingly allowed Him to mold them into His likeness. They are loving servants of Jesus and I have been a recipient of that service. How grateful I am.
What an awesome God we serve!
