I was reminded yesterday during a meeting with some friends that everyone I meet is carrying deep burdens. One woman is living with the loss of three of her children. Three have recently become widows. Several have children living outside of the will of God. One has a husband paralyzed by a stroke eight months ago now. Several are living with intense physical pain. Others have children with debilitating diseases. Everyone is fighting a huge battle.
I am so glad we have a God we can take these battles to and find encouragement and strength to just keep breathing. Our Lord says, “Listen to me, O house of Jacob and all who remain of the house of Israel, You whom I have upheld since you were conceived and carried since your birth. Even to your old age and gray hair, I am He. I am He who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you. I will sustain you and I will rescue you.” Isaiah 46.3-4.
When we can no longer put one foot in front of the other, we can look to our God to carry us. He is our strength and shield. Isaiah 40 tells us: “The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary and His understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” (v. 28-29) What a God we serve!
