Exercising necessary

Two weeks ago I asked a group of my friends to become my accountability group and help me keep on track to begin an exercise program.  I am riding a stationary bicycle now for 5-10 minutes 5/6 times each day.  I wasn’t doing anything.  I could immediately tell that this increased my energy level and helped me sleep better at night.  Also, my new knee feels better and stronger.  I’m not doing this to lose weight but rather to be in better physical shape.  I am constantly challenged by the Holy Spirit through our pastor’s preaching that since I am the temple of the Holy Spirit (I Corinthians 6:19), I should do what is necessary to keep it in good shape for His use.

If I am to keep my body fit for the Master’s use, so also should I keep my mind fit for His thinking.  I am told to bring every thought–not just Sunday morning thoughts–captive to Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5).  I am to have the mind of Christ (Philippians 2:5) so that I can fulfill His purposes in my life.  Paul tells us in Philippians 4:8-9 what we ought to think on:  “whatever is true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, of good report, or worthy of praise, think on these things”.  I cannot do this if I am constantly filling my mind with the things of the world–the lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, and the pride of life.  I need to be careful of what I see, listen to, and choose to watch.  I want Jesus to come out in my life and in order for that to happen, I must listen to Him, read His Word, watch what He does and think like He does about everything.

So I ask for prayer to remain faithful with my physical exercise as well as my mental exercise each day so Jesus can be seen through me.  He is life and joy.  He is who this world and everyone in it needs.
