I was reminded recently that Jesus calls us out of the darkness of our past experiences and sin into His marvelous light. He wants us to be completely free from the pain of the past and live without shame and guilt weighing us down. A lady in our conference this weekend said we need just to “put our dirt out there and let Jesus wash us clean.” John 13:5-10. I have so often laughingly said that the hardest prayer for me to even want to pray is Psalm 139:23-24 “Search me, O God and know my heart; Try me and know my anxious thoughts; And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” I don’t mind being led in the way everlasting, but I am not sure that I want to be shown the depth of the wickedness within my own heart! Yet I know that God cannot heal where His light is not allowed to go.
I am just so grateful that He knows the deceitfulness of my heart (Jeremiah 17:9) and shows it to me only as I am able with His help to see and understand. Then, to be convicted that the sin I bring to Him, He forgives and cleanses in me. And not just from what I see, but from all that He has seen that I am not aware of yet. 1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” What love is this! What joy to walk in His cleansing! Love the light of Jesus!
