Following God’s Plans

After returning to North Texas for my sophomore year, I began feeling the Lord telling me that I needed to go home and study at the University of Houston. I didn’t want to do this since I had always said “I’ll never go to ;Courar High!'”. I was involved with a small church just outside of town and loved it. I was also very much a part of the Baptist Student Union on campus. I had many friends there and also with another Bible study I went to in the dorm. I was very busy, involved and happy there. I wanted to to remain where I was. God, however, had other plans. I finally got an application to the U of H and completed it then dropped it in the mail on the way to church. I immediately had a wave of peace go through my body and mind. I knew I had done the right thing and that this was His way for me.

I made plans to move back home. Dad bought me a ’57 Chevrolet so I could drive back and forth to school. At midterm, which then was in January, I moved back home. One evening in February I went to campus to visit and share Christ with people in the dorm. At the gathering, I met several of the young ladies and men who were there to go out and share Jesus. One of these was Frank Biles. That spring the BSU director asked me to put together teams of 4-5 BSUers to go to various churches and lead their evening service and youth fellowship afterwards. I found Frank, Errol (his roommate), and several others on the list of ministry. One day. when I called to line up a group, Frank wasn’t there and Errol answered the phone. He asked me if I’d like to go play tennis with them and that Frank would pick me up. They did and after the tennis games, we went back to their apartment for games and refreshments. I met Frank’s mother, who lived with the guys as their cook. This was often the Friday night entertainment for us.

Frank and I became engaged in September and married January 29, 1965. So God had His reasons for moving me home.
