I love the Psalms

My favorite book in the Old Testament is the Psalms even though there are some that I don’t fully understand, for the most part they seem to begin in depression and despair but end in praise and thanksgiving. I usually read one Psalm a day based on the day of the month, ie. April 1, Psalm 1-April 30, Psalm 30; May 1, Psalm 31, May 30, Psalm 60, etc. On the 31st of each month I read through Psalm 119 as a reminder of all the benefits of knowing and learning from God’s Word.

Psalm 1 begins with the blessing of not following the world’s path of lies nd deception, but following the truth of God and loving His Word and ways. It also reveals the outcome of rebellion against God and His Word. The blessing or the destruction is our choice. We follow the world or we follow God. We trust the world’s opinions or we trust what God has said to the world. It is just that simple. The outcome of our choice is always the same–life or death.

Psalm 2 speaks to the rulers of the world and all those who mock God and His laws. God tells of their destruction and prophesies about the Son coming into the world to reign, to judge the evildoers, and to bless those who take refuge in Him.

Psalm 3 is King David expressing his trust in God for sustaining him when he fled from his son, Absolam, who led the kingdom in rebellion against David. He knows the Lord is his shield and his glory, “the One who lifts my head.” (v.3). I love the words in verse 5-6: “I lay down and sleep for the Lord sustains me. I will not be afraid….” These words, along with Psalm 4:8 “I will both lie down and sleep, for you alone, o Lord, are me to dwell in safety.”

What a beautiful way to start the day being reminded of God’s constant presence and sustaining power for those who trust Him. That includes me. I am one of the whosoever believes in the Lord Jesus Christ shall have life abundantly and everlasting. Praise His holy Name.
