I wanted to avoid the word “happy” since years aren’t always filled with experiences that promote happiness. Happiness depends upon circumstances. Joy however can be found even in the most dire situations of life. Joy is a choice. A way of thinking that goes beyond circumstances to the eternal truths that never change. Life is constant change and sometimes the changes do not seem to be beneficial to us. However, when we know that our loving Father is in control, we are assured that “all things work together for good for those who love Him and are the called according to His purposes.” (Romans 8:32) We are also assured that His plans for us are “good and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 17:9) Therefore, even when situations are less than desirable in our eyes, we can know that they are used by Him for our good.
I have been without my love 23 months and 2 days. I will not cease to miss him every day of my remaining life. Yet, I am filled with joy even in sorrow and pain because of Jesus and His love and promises to me. I pray you will know His joy also throughout 2016 and beyond.
